What is the main reason for climate change?
Over the last 800,000 years, there have been natural cycles in the Earth's climate. The last temperature rise cycle began around 1700, and it could not be a matter of industrial impact in those days. Thus, the temperature rise within the period from 1700 to 1850 could in no way be attributed to the man impact. The periods of growth in temperature were alternated with the periods of its decline despite the continuous increase in CO2 concentration.

By what extent has the average temperature on the Earth changed since 1900?
According to NASA, for the last century, the average temperature on the Earth has increased by 0.7 Celsius. However, under the latest estimates, in the past the world already witnessed the same tendency.

What does eco-friendly mean to you?
Eco-friendly literally means earth-friendly or not harmful to the environment. This term most commonly refers to products that contribute to green living or practices that help conserve resources like water and energy. Eco-friendly products also prevent contributions to air, water and land pollution. You can engage in eco-friendly habits or practices by being more conscious of how you use resources.

Are wind and solar energy eco-friendly?
Solar and wind energy are not environmentally friendly due to the following reasons:

Are renewables reliable?
Electric grids cannot function unless they are able to balance supply and demand. Given intermittent nature of renewables and lack of efficient storage technologies capable of capturing electricity out of solar panels with no losses, unanticipated excess demand or a drop in supply may cause the grid frequency to fall off, leading to mass power outages. Texas power crisis in February 2021 serves a clear illustration of that. Vulnerable to low temperatures and any unexpected changes, wind turbines in Texas got frozen and were unable to provide power supplies leaving millions of people without electricity.

Are electric vehicles completely harmless to the environment?
A report by the European Environment Agency (EEA) highlights that CO2 emissions from electric car production are 59% higher than the level in production of traditional internal combustion engine vehicles (ICEVs). Lithium-ion batteries for electric vehicles are made from critical minerals, including cobalt, graphite, and lithium. According to the US Congressional research center, extracting and processing critical minerals are responsible for approximately 20% of the total greenhouse gas emissions from battery production.

Can coal be eco-friendly?
According to the Community Research and Development Information Service of the European Commission (CORDIS), the volume of ash-forming compounds distributed throughout the coal is the key aspect when it comes to defining whether coal is green or not. However, coal may be eco-friendly. As an illustration of that, Eco Carbon company offers eco-grade coals which stand out for their unique quality characteristics on the international market. The low sulfur content of the coal, supplied by Eco Carbon, results in lower CO2 emissions, while the coal’s low ash levels limit emissions of toxic elements and metals both in slag and in fly ash.

Can modern coal-fired technologies be eco-friendly (CO2 recycling, carbon capture and storage (CCS), etc.)?
According to IEA Clean coal center, there are a wide range of technologies aimed at reduction of air pollution and separation over 90% of CO2 emissions. For example, oxy-circulating fluidized bed combustion (Oxy-CFBC) technology makes it possible to separate CO2 efficiently, utilize low grade fuels and remove SOx and NOx. Apart from that, Advanced Ultra-Supercritical technology, providing a 10-15% reduction in carbon-di-oxide emission, together with flue-gas desulfurization methods (removal of SO2 from emissions) enable cleanest power generation from coal. Finally, various CO2 utilization facilities recycle carbon, delivering captured CO2 for the need of the production of plastics, wood products, bitumen, and cereals.
